NuScale (SMR)

Small Modular Reactor using traditional light water reactor technology and solid fuel rods of less than 5% enriched uranium. This traditional approach should help them from the regulatory perspective, but carries forward all the traditional risks and waste products of a pressurized water reactor using low enriched uranium.

By the end of this decade, the first NuScale small modular reactor (SMR) power plant will begin operation in the United States in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Foundational to the Carbon Free Power Project (CFPP), an initiative spearheaded by the public power consortium Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems (UAMPS), the NuScale plant will advance the goals of the CFPP to provide safe, reliable, and cost competitive clean energy to communities across the Intermountain West. The first NuScale Power Moduleā„¢ will begin generating power in 2029, with the remaining modules coming online for full plant operation by 2030.

NuScale recently (July 2022) went public via SPAC.
